KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Institute of Art (SIA) is thrilled to announce the winners of the Hilton Hotel Mooncake Bag Contest 2023. This collaborative event provided a mesmerizing platform to unveil the extraordinary talents of Diploma in Fashion Design SIA students.
“Our collaboration with Hilton Kota Kinabalu to organize the Mooncake Bag Design Contest
aims to empower creativity and imagination among our design students. Hilton Hotel Kota
Kinabalu will display and showcase our students’ work in their hotel lobby. In line with the
World Sustainability Agenda, this initiative has the potential to create a unique impact on the surroundings and individual aesthetic experiences. We believe this can serve as motivation for the younger generation and the Sabahan community,” said Dayang Mahsuri Binti Abdul Rahim, Chief Of Executive of Sabah Institute of Art.
“This collaboration with the Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu was a valuable experience for our
students, aligning seamlessly with our SIA Diploma in Fashion Design program and its learning outcomes. The competition provided a platform for our students to showcase their creative talents and immerse themselves in the reality-meet design industry in accordance with the client request of the design theme and concept, this not only fostering the development of design development skills but also their soft skills whereby it involves critical thinking and problem-solving. With their newfound knowledge and confidence will undoubtedly shape their journey as the next-generation designers, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application,” added Nur Ain Binti Azmi, Head of Diploma in Fashion Design at Sabah Institute of Art
The winners of the competition: Song Lin Jia Xin (Semester 3), Safiya Binti
Royan (Semester 1) secured the 1st Runner Up, and Florra Binti Bhony (Semester 1) earned 2nd Runner Up.
Two consolation prizes went to Rachel Jael Herry (Semester 3) and Safiya Binti
Royan (Semester 1). The winning & consolation prizes worth RM 4,900 sponsored by Hilton
Hotel Kota Kinabalu.
Song Lin Jia Xin, the Mooncake Bag Competition 2023 Winner, shared her thoughts on the
competition “In this auspicious year of the rabbit, my design embodies the joy of the occasion, inspiring families to come together, no matter the distance, and celebrate reunification under the full moon’s glow. Winning this competition has boosted my confidence as an artist, and I am happy to see my design prominently featured at Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu.”
All the bags will be exhibited in the lobby area of Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu. However, the
top 5 bags will also be available for purchase alongside the Ruby Allure Mooncake packages, with the proceeds going directly to support the chosen charity organization.
